Madeline's character Bronte is an enigmatic and adventurous playwright who embarks on a stint at Joe's new London bookshop.

Filming for the final season began in March and it is the first season without You's co-creator Sera Gamble.

The season marks Madeline's first appearance on the show, and no returning cast members have been confirmed other than Penn.

Penn began his run as Joe in 2018 and You originally aired on US network Lifetime, before moving to Netflix after its first season.

You's first storyline was Joe's experiences in New York City where he becomes infatuated with NYU graduate student and writer Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail).

The show relocated to Los Angeles and Joe, now assuming the identity of Will Bettelheim, worked at a bookstore and fell for heiress and wellness expert Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti).

In the third season, Joe began to establish a stable life by marrying Love and starting a family, yet his fixation on two new women persists.

In the fourth season, Joe relocated to London, assuming the persona of Jonathan Moore, an English professor entangled in high society.

As well as Madeline, Torchwood's Griffin Matthews and True Blood's Anna Camp will also appear in season five.

The upcoming season, for which Joe specifically asked for fewer sex scenes, was initially expected to premiere sometime in 2024.

However, delays are predicted as the SAG-AFTRA strikes delayed the season's scripting and production schedules.
