#CPFDSoftware announced that it has entered into a software licensing agreement with Simonpietri Enterprises LLC to model gasification reactions to generate clean #hydrogen fuel out of construction and demolition debris solid wastes. This modeling will be accomplished as part of SEL’s waste #gasification work under a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) competitive subrecipient agreement with the University of North Dakota Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC), to demonstrate hydrogen production from high-volume construction and demolition wastes. Monitoring, reporting, and verification (#MRV) refers to the multistep process to quantify the amount of CO₂ removed by a CO₂ removal (#CDR) activity. As part of the newly published Best Practices Guide to Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) Research, my coauthors (Laurent Bopp, Jaime Palter, Matthew Long, Philip Boyd, Griet Neukermans, and Lennart Bach) and I make recommendations for MRV for Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (#OAE) research, arguing that it has an obligation for comprehensiveness, reproducibility, and transparency, as it may become the foundation for assessing large-scale deployment. We discuss what MRV is in the context of OAE, the specificities of MRV for marine CDR, observation and model based techniques for MRV and their limitations, and propose a way forward based on both observations and modeling.
