I've always wanted to read all of the peanuts comics, and this seems like the perfect time for that. i've always had a soft spot for that glet's goo!!
I've always wanted to read all of the peanuts comics, and this seems like the perfect time for that. i've always had a soft spot for that gang, especially miserable charlie brown, because he can't just catch a break, and that's so relateable. this volume was also so interesting in the introductions and the intervews with schulz as it sheds a lot of light on his ideas behind this comic strip
this one covers the very first 2 years he drew this strip, and I had some observations: - charlie had a darker, more direct sense of humor in the beginning - it's interesting to see how pattty morphed later into lucy - the ages of the characters are hazy, i always assumed that charlie and lucy and shroeder are the same age, but maybe they're not yet? - snoopy wasn't that eccentric, and it's also interesting to see that he wasnt really charlie's dog?? he was more like anyone's dog :D...more

it's a very adult retelling of the wholesome story of pinocchio, and in this story: he is a robot boy built by a man hoping to sell his invention to the military, but pinocchio makes a mess and starts his journey like he did in the original story, but with the added infestation of a cockroach called jiminy.
the art is amazing and breathtaking, and it follows a lot of the beats of the original story in a creative way, so i really liked that about it. i was also suprised by the way this author decided to add his disturbing twist to some other stories as well, like snow white.
i'm really interested to read more by this author...more

I was disappointed that we got to know the secret from the very 1st chapter, i thought that the ending of that chapter could've been the ending of the 1st volume, and the rest of the chapters would be filled with sinister warnings leading up to the reveal.
we follow a group of orphans, led by emma, ray, and norman, who are all 12 years old, as they discover that there's a reason for them being in that orphanage, and it isn't as wholesome as they've been led to believe. it has some gore, horror elements, beautiful art style....more

the art was beautiful especially the contrast between the black and white real life (?) and the colorful illusions or dreams. we follow a park caretaker who seems to be the only one able to see weird spectres in the park and thinks he's the only one able to protect people from them, and these creatures are somehow connected to H.P. Lovecraft.

the author goes back to her childhood and younger days, most importantly her relationship with her father and the complicated dynamics of their family. bit by bit, she reveals the complicated character of her father through snippets of her own life with him, and also of what she knows about hif life before marrying and having her.
there's a ton of literary references, since her father is a lit teacher, and she draws a lot of parallels between her father and the authors and books he chose to read. there's a huge discussion of sexuality: her own and her father's and how these secrets were one of the things that destroyed the facade of their family.
it was such a heavy read, the writing was sharp, and the graphic novel was done in different blue tones to match the vibe of the story. it felt raw and honest and brutal and self-scathing a lot of the time. its also a very adult read...more
