Bodies of man and woman in their 80s are pulled from a Fenland river near Chain Bridge by police after 'concern for welfare'

The bodies of a man and a woman in their 80s have been pulled from a Fenland river following a 'concern for welfare' incident. 

Police were called to Chain Bridge in March, Cambridgeshire, at around 8.30am on Saturday after locals raised concerns about a car being parked in the area for several days. 

Officers investigating the report said they were worried for the welfare of two people in their 80s. 

The woman's body was pulled from the river on Saturday afternoon but the search for the man continued into today. 

Cambridgeshire Police have now said that another body, believed to be the missing man in his 80s, was found this afternoon at 4.30pm.

Twenty Foot river road in March was closed between the A141, Hobb's Lot Bridge and junction of Elm Road for most of today as officers searched the water

A spokesperson for Policing Fenland said: 'A body of a man has now been located. 

'Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal and contacted us with information.

'We were called to Chain Bridge, March, at about 8.35am yesterday with reports of concern for the welfare of two people.

'Yesterday afternoon the body of a woman in her 80s was recovered from the river.'

Detective Inspector Lee Womack previously said while the man was still missing: 'We are currently treating the death of the woman as unexplained and searches are ongoing of the river and the surrounding area to locate the man.

'We would like to appeal to anyone who was driving in the area on 10 July and may have dashcam footage of a silver Vauxhall Astra or the man and woman.'

'Anyone with information is asked to contact police quoting incident 116 of July 13.'
