  • Two Palermo men, age 44 and 41, were arrested Monday in conjunction with the rape of a 30-year-old Canadian tourist
  • The victim reportedly told police she had met one of the men, a porter, while she was visiting her boyfriend in the hospital after he suffered a minor injury

Two Palermo men, age 44 and 41, were arrested Monday in connection to the rape of a 30-year-old Canadian tourist at her B&B in Sicily.

The victim reportedly told the police she had met one of the two men, who was a hospital porter, while she was visiting her boyfriend in the hospital after he suffered a minor injury.

She told officers she and the porter began talking and she invited him back to her bed and breakfast. The tourist described him as 'very nice' but 'after a certain point I can't remember anything,' she reportedly said, according to ANSA.

The porter was joined by another man and allegedly took turns raping the tourist, she told police.

The victim reportedly took a sexual assault forensic exam, known more colloquially as a 'rape kit,' which allegedly confirmed that she was assaulted.

The latest report comes shortly after a barman accused of raping a British tourist was arrested last month by police in Naples after traces of his DNA were found on her clothing - eight months after she reported she had been attacked in a Naples nightclub.

The suspect reportedly served the young woman drinks and chatted with her as she drank in the bar with a friend in July last year.

When she went to the bathroom he followed her and brutally attacked her, according to local media reports.

She told police: 'Suddenly he was on top of me and I saw his trousers down. There wasn't my consent at all. I didn't give my consent.'

After the attack, the victim - who is believed to be in her early 20s - went to hospital and reported the incident to police, who launched an investigation.

Two French tourists are believed to have helped the woman and her friend in the aftermath of the alleged attack, giving them the police's contact information.

Although the woman returned to England, she cooperated with Italian authorities by providing DNA evidence and continued to help police track down her attacker.

She returned to Italy in December and provided prosecutor Mariangela Magariello and deputy prosecutor Raffaello Falcone with further statements and identification.

After reviewing the evidence, which also included video footage, police arrested the barman.

Naples judge Carla Sarno ordered him to be held under house arrest after prosecutors and the victim's lawyer Lucilla Longone said there were fears he could try to flee.

Italian media reports that the suspect is 27 and was the owner of the bar, which is in the historic Decumani area of the city.

According to the victim's testimony, he saw the two British women go past and invited them into his bar for a drink, Corriere della Sera reports.

Police are still investigating.

In February, another instance occurred in which a British tourist was allegedly raped at a Milan spa resort.

The woman, 29, said she was sexually assaulted by a man with distinctive tattoos, believed to be 25, at the Terme di Milano spa in the middle of the Italian city.

The English tourist claimed the man approached her at the spa while she was relaxing with a friend. They reportedly knew each other and had consumed alcohol together.

After inviting her to follow him into the men's changing room, the suspect turned violent and raped her at around 10 pm, Italian newspaper Il Giorno reports.

She screamed for help and attracted the attention of her friend, causing the man to flee.

Italian police officers from the Carabinieri are looking for the alleged rapist after the Briton reported the assault after returning to her hotel at around 11 pm.

The man is said to be 25 years old, Italian-Moroccan and to have several tattoos.
