General Observers Programs

General Observers (GO) programs provide the worldwide astronomical community with opportunities to apply for observation time with JWST in a given cycle (generally 1 year in duration). GO proposals may be submitted for any amount of observing time, counted in hours, including all overheads. GO proposals are classified as Small (≤ 25 hours), Medium (> 25 and ≤ 75 hours), and Large (>75 hours). A variety of proposal types include:

  • Treasury
  • Calibration
  • Survey
  • Archival research
