• Allie Shehorn, 35, was attacked in her Los Angeles home on May 23
  • Her ex-boyfriend allegedly stabbed her, fled the scene and was arrested in Texas

A Hollywood makeup artist was left fighting for her life after being stabbed more than 20 times in a horror attack.

Allie Shehorn, 35, known for her work on blockbusters including Mean Girls and Rebel Moon, was almost killed on May 23 after allegedly being stabbed by her ex-boyfriend.

The alleged attacker, who has not been named by authorities, was reportedly served with a restraining order by Shehorn just days before, and fled the scene in Los Angeles before being arrested in Texas

Shehorn's loved ones say she is slowly recovering in hospital following several surgeries, and told KTLA that despite her ordeal she is 'in really good spirits.'

Shehorn's surrogate mother Christine White said she was staying with the 35-year-old in her Shadow Hills home when the attack unfolded.

She said she returned home to find Shehorn surrounded by blood in her bedroom, which she said 'wasn't a pretty sight.'

'This is not the kind of thing that should happen to anybody,' White added. 'You don't think this is ever going to happen to you.'

A GoFundMe, set up to help Shehorn cope with her mounting medical bills, added in an update on Monday that her adopted mother 'acted fast when she found Allie bleeding out', a move that 'saved her life.'

The makeup artist suffered a number of stab injuries including to her neck, arms and abdomen, but miraculously survived as she was raced to hospital.

Her friend Christopher Wayne added to KTLA: 'The fact that she was able to get through what she did that night and how fast she's recovering is really amazing.'

Another of Shehorn's friends, Emily MacDonald, told the outlet that she has a long road ahead of her, which will likely include another month in the ICU before a lengthy post-operation physical therapy effort.

But she said the Hollywood staffer, whose other credits include Babylon and Fall, has been in surprisingly 'good spirits', even cracking jokes with her loved ones while in hospital.

'I feel like she's comforting all of us, which is kind of how Allie is,' she said. 'Even when she's at rock bottom, she's still looking to see how she can lift other people up.'

The GoFundMe claimed that Shehorn's ex-boyfriend who allegedly attacked her was arrested in Texas 'trying to flee the country on the Texas and Mexican border.'

According to the fundraiser, Shehorn filed a restraining order against the man, and he was recently arrested for domestic violence before he 'paid his bail and attacked immediately after being released.'

KTLA reported that the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the suspect fled the scene, however it is unclear where in Texas the alleged attacker was reportedly arrested.

An update to the fundraiser on Monday written by one of Shehorn's friends said that for those that knew her and the ex-boyfriend, 'if you had met him, you would not have known he was capable of this.'

'I knew him first hand for two years and was and still am in shock that this happened. This person was a part of a lot of people's life and seemed stable,' they said, adding that the two met on the set of the film Rebel Moon.

She was described by loved ones in the GoFundMe as 'a remarkable person, full of warmth, kindness and love.'

'No one deserves to endure such a traumatic experience, especially someone as compassionate and caring as Allie,' they added.
