Scotland fans crow as England stumble at the final hurdle against Spain and jibe 'at least you can take home losing back to back finals' - after Lewis Capaldi bragged 'it's NEVER coming home' before the Euro 2024 final

  •  Spain defeated England 2-1 with the Three Lions again missing out on glory

Scotland fans have been left ecstatic as England stumbled at the final hurdle against Spain and with some crowing 'at least you can take home losing back to back finals'.

Members of the Tartan Army, who have been open in their desire to see the Three Lions to collapse at Euro 2024, wasted no time in expressing their glee after Gareth Southgate's men fell to defeat in the final last night.

Some gleefully remarked that England were coming home with the 'exact same prize as Scotland', who were knocked out in the group stage of the competition, while others cheered as Spain scored.

In the build up to the game some fans had even bought Spanish flags to express their support for England's opponents, as they made their allegiances clear.

Even Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi got in the action, bragging 'it's NEVER coming home' before the hotly-anticipated final even took place.

And it turns out he was correct, as Spain defeated England 2-1, meaning the Three Lions once again missed out on glory.

One X user crowed: 'Let's go Spain, unlucky England! At least you take home losing back to back finals!'

Millions of fans had packed into bars and pubs in hope of seeing the England finally claim their first victory since the World Cup of 1966 but were left with broken hearts.

The last time England made it to the Euros final was in 2021, but were defeated by Italy at Wembley Stadium during a penalty shootout.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Prince William and his son Prince George were all in attendance to cheer on their country, but were left visibly stunned at the loss as Spain became record four-time winners of the European Championship.

Scotland's Euro 2024 journey ended in a limp group stage exit as they slumped to a heavy defeat against Germany, drawing with Switzerland and losing to Hungary

So yesterday, many Scots flew the Spanish flag out of resentment and refusal to support their longtime rivals as England edged closer to a potential historic victory.

This has even spread to Berlin, with Scots attending the match proudly wearing Spain's colours - but waving their nation's gigantic flag.

One passive aggressive Scot even painstakingly bought the flag of every country which took on the Three Lions throughout the tournament so he could fly it.

Ahead of the match, Lewis Capaldi said he 'doesn't understand' England's 'optimism' when it comes to the Three Lions playing in 'any kind of competition'.

The Someone You Loved hitmaker called for Brits to go back to being 'miserable b*******' and need to 'come back down to earth'.

Speaking to LadBible in a TikTok video, he said: 'It's never coming home, ever! I don't have a problem with England the country, I love English people and I spend a lot of time here.'

Lewis went onto reveal he also 'doesn't have a problem' with the England football players but instead slammed supporters.

It's not the first time, as the Star and Garter also backed Italy in the final three years ago when they also took on the Three Lions - backing anyone but England.

One cheeky Scots fan on X even embarked on a quest to visibly support whatever country took on England throughout the Euros.

His stance meant he diligently bought and and displayed each opposition flag - dubbed the 'Anyone but England Flag Challenge'.

A user posted on X yesterday that it is the 'end of an era', showing the Spanish flag.

Scottish newspaper The National sparked outrage after publishing a front page urging the team to get 'revenge' and smash Gareth Southgate's side.

Its Saturday edition showed Spanish star Rodri kicking a beachball shaped like a British tourist.

It read: 'Time for revenge! Our message to Spain: Save us from an England win (or we'll never hear the end of it!)'

Another X user posted in amusement: 'First thing I see when I arrive in Glasgow? Everyone celebrating Spain scoring.'

'I wondered what the huge roar was outside. I then realised Spain had scored and the whole of Scotland was cheering loudly,' another said.

And it's not just Scotland supporting Spain out of sheer pettiness.

One X user posted: 'On behalf of Wales, Scotland and Ireland, Spain, go and win the EUROS. COME ON SPAIN.'

Victory will earn England's current crop of stars legendary status in British sporting history and Paddy Power couldn't miss out on the opportunity to rile Three Lions supporters less than 48 hours before the big match.

On the lead up to the final, former Scotland players Alan Brazil, Pat Nevin and Charlie Nicholas all featured in a viral sketch showcasing their newfound Spanish identities.

TalkSPORT host, Brazil, opens the video explaining: 'We have been a joy to watch this tournament. Exciting, dynamic, best football we have played since 2012. I'm not talking about Scotland,' he says while wearing a Spain top.

Former Arsenal and Celtic striker Nicholas donned a bullfighting matador outfit while watering his plants and jokingly insisted that being Spanish is 'in his blood'.

Meanwhile, Nevin discussed his love for Spain while preparing a platter of tapas dishes, labelling a plate of potato smiley faces as 'patas bravas'.

The joke video highlighted the passionate rivalry between England and Scottish football supporters that has long stood the test of time across a host of competitive sports.

Most fans saw the light-hearted nature of the comedy act with one post on X stating in response: 'It's called a joke guys. Paddy Power have been doing this for years now. At least they show some personality.'

Another added: 'This is what football rivalry is all about. They won't want us to win we don't want them to win. Without rivalry and banter football isn't the same. And when we win we can point and laugh.'
