Sir Keir Starmer says he is 'appalled' at attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a campaign rally as the prime minister says he 'best wishes' are with the former US president

Sir Keir Starmer has said he is 'appalled' at the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a campaign rally.

The shooter fired at least eight shots at the former President Trump while he was discussing immigration to a crowd of hundreds of people in Pennsylvania.

The Secret Service's counter sniper team took out the shooter - who they said was outside the perimeter of the show grounds, several hundred yards away from the stage.

The Prime Minister posted on X in response to the horrifying incident: 'I am appalled by the shocking scenes at President Trump's rally and we send him and his family our best wishes.

'Political violence in any form has no place in our societies and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack.'

'I just spoke to my father on the phone and he is in great spirits. He will never stop fighting to save America, no matter what the radical left throws at him.'

Newly elected MP Nigel Farage and close friend to Trump said: 'Mainstream media have spread a narrative of hatred against my friend Donald Trump.

'I hope they are proud of themselves. Disgusting people.'

While former Prime Minister Liz Truss struck a similar tone, saying: 'Pray for President Trump. Pray for America.'

The president was seen ducking, with blood pouring from his ear as screams from terrified onlookers rang out. His team says that he is 'fine.'

The UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy also condemned the actions of the shooter as unacceptable.
