Melissa Lam Young

Assistant Commissioner of Communications and Planning

Melissa Lam Young is the Assistant Commissioner of Communications and Planning for Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB), providing leadership on the state’s enterprise communication and continuity efforts. In this role, Melissa works in coordination with statewide leadership on strategic planning, crisis communication and directs internal and external communications. Additionally, she oversees Management Analysis and Development (MAD), a nationally recognized fee-for-service management consulting practice within MMB. Most recently, Melissa served as the Director of Administration at the Minnesota Office of the Attorney General.

Melissa is a second generation Asian American whose parents instilled within her a passion for public service early in life. She attended the University of Minnesota where she pursued that passion and holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Communications and Political Science and a Master of Public Policy degree. Melissa has dedicated over 10 years of her professional career to improving state initiatives and policies that can positively impact the lives of all Minnesotans.
